Celebrating Black History Month: Advancing Health Equity in Communities of Color

On February 22, CMHA had the privilege of hosting "Advancing Health Equity in Communities of Color,” a compelling panel discussion in honor of Black History Month. The event brought together a diverse group of Black leaders in healthcare from within our organization and the community. The dialogue was insightful and deeply inspiring, providing invaluable lessons for all of us.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed panelists, whose wisdom and expertise illuminated the discussion. Dr. Huiam Mubarak, Rev Frederick (Jerry) Streets, Christopher Porcher, Taylor Tucker, and Dr. Camelia Lawrence, thank you for sharing your experiences and insights. Your voices are crucial in the ongoing effort to address health disparities and promote equity in healthcare.

We also want to acknowledge our incredible moderators, Edward Ford and Jan Sykes, whose skillful facilitation ensured that the discussion was both engaging and informative. Your dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion is truly commendable.
For those who were unable to attend, we are pleased to announce that the recording of the panel discussion is now available for viewing here. We encourage everyone to take the time to watch and listen to the important conversations that took place.

Events like these remind us of the importance of honoring and celebrating Black history not just during the month of February, but year-round. They also serve as a call to action, urging us to continue working towards a more equitable and inclusive healthcare system for all.
As we reflect on the lessons learned from yesterday's discussion, let us recommit ourselves to advancing health equity in communities of color. Together, we can make a difference.
