CMHA is pleased to announce the award of a $96,000 grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support CMHA’s Permanent Supportive Housing program, which helps homeless clients with mental health or substance abuse issues find and maintain housing. The funds will enable CMHA to provide long term assistance to four chronically homeless participants over the next two years. Staff will offer support with landlords, entitlement offices, health care and other community services, and clients will receive substance abuse treatment and/or mental health services through other CMHA programs. CMHA’s Permanent Supportive Housing program also provides clients with valuable life skills such as budgeting, housekeeping, and meal preparation so that participants are successful in maintaining their housing. "These new dollars will provide additional affordable, accessible and more desirable housing for individuals who would otherwise not be able to pay for such accommodations,” said Linda Filipetti, CMHA Vice President of Community Support Services. “In Connecticut, safe and affordable housing is a number one priority." “We are grateful for the financial support shown by HUD, and quite pleased that they perceive our Supportive Housing program as worthy of expansion,” said CMHA President & CEO Ray Gorman. |
